Designer Profile -- Julie Lawson

Silversmith, lampwork bead maker, Artist Coordinator

Julie Lawson is one of those naturally artistic people for whom creativity appears effortless. A jewelry designer, painter, and art teacher, Julie simply loves to create! "I feel restless when I'm not involved in some artistic endeavor or other," she said.
Asked what inspires her art, Julie replied that she sees inspiration everywhere: "On a recent trip to Guatemala, I kept looking at the centuries-old plaster work and picturing jewelry pieces modeled after them. Color combinations in nature inspire me too."
For Cottage Industry Co-op, Julie focuses on handcrafted silver jewelry (sometimes mixed with copper and brass, as above) and handblown lampwork beaded jewelry. "The silver work tends to lean in an earthy direction," she explained, "while the glass work is a little more dressy." Cottage is now also carrying her paintings.
Aside from her creative work and teaching, Julie is a busy wife and mom to two teenagers and serves as the Artist Coordinator for Cottage. (If you are ever interested in selling your handcrafted goods at the co-op, she's the one to talk to.) Fortunately, she finds creative ways to juggle all these responsibilities!
