Meet the Designer: Lynne Martin

Lynne Martin's chosen artistic medium is, quite literally, down-to-earth. As the designer behind Dreams of Clay Pottery, she creates stoneware pieces from that most simple and earthy of elements -- clay. She even describes practicing her craft as "getting muddy."

At the same time, Lynne clearly feels her art is an expression of the Divine. "I believe that the desire to create is a transcendent human trait, a direct reflection of the Creator," she says. "There's an innate joy that comes from standing back from something you have made."

Perhaps it's this inspired approach that enables Lynne to create such stunning and unique pieces. Her pots are mostly wheel-thrown, with some hand-altered afterwards to add a sculptural element. She favors earth-toned colors such as reds, browns, and greens, and makes functional items for the kitchen and home. We're so pleased to be carrying a full range of her colors and styles on our shelves at Cottage Industry Co-op!

Lynne has been working with clay for nearly 10 years, though she's also dabbled in stained glass, basketry, and painting. Outside of her pottery, Lynne is a wife and mom to a college-aged daughter. She and her husband recently moved back to Central Florida after many years in western North Carolina.

"My pots are an extension of who I am," Lynne says, "my experiences, my personality, my faith. It is ever-growing, ever-stretching and ever-changing." We look forward to watching how Lynne's work continues to develop!
